Our world is experiencing a crises of displaced persons unlike we have ever known. People driven from their homes by war, persecution, or climate disasters are then finding their way blocked by closed borders. In Calais, France several thousand refugees live scattered along the coast, hoping to make their way across the channel to England. These refugees are living under the harshest conditions, without proper shelter or supplies, exposed to the damp and cold of winter, and under the constant threat of police.
Each night many try to hop lorries and trains to make the channel crossing into England. A few might be successful, but many end up hurt and in need of care… injuries like rubber bullet contusions, sprains, broken bones, or their skin torn by barbed wire. Three years ago, Herbalista Lorna made 2 trips to Calais to provide herbal and foot care. She will be returning again this March with a team from Herbalists without Borders UK. It is difficult to see so many in such devastating circumstances, knowing the crises grows every day. But we are grateful that we have a chance to provide herbal care and comfort.
Please join Lorna on Friday, the 6th of March, to prepare herbal remedies and kits for the journey to Calais. We will make some of our most needed herbal preparations and review our kits and supplies. As time allows we will also discuss some herbal first aid basics with a focus on the issues experienced by the unhoused. Participants will go home with new skills and recipes; packing lists for herbcare kits; and the knowledge that they have made batches of sweet, sweet herbal medicine to nurture our friends in need.
Proceeds from this event will help to fund needed gear and supplies for the trip to Calais. We thank you for your support!
