Change School food Fundraiser

In September 2018 The Fumbally took over the running of the canteen of its local school, Warrenmount Presentation Secondary School, in Dublin 8. Our aim was to prove that good food in schools is possible. No matter what the challenges.

We have now been cooking hot lunches and snacks for the students and teachers of Warrenmount for the past six months and we are putting our full energy into creating a sustainable model which we hope could be implemented by any school around the country. It focuses on working to tight budgets and delivering good, healthy fresh cooked meals and snacks and a genuine engagement with the students, building personal relationships and awareness around the food that they eat.

It is a bumpy road and we are faced with many challenges in this venture. Cooking good food is the easy part, it is trying to change a culture that is the hard part and that will take time. Unfortunately the culture of food within many Irish institutions, and schools are no exception, is lacking in a true understanding of what it is that we need on a daily basis to grow as healthy and happy individuals.

By supporting us through our fundraiser we will be able to develop this good food model in schools. Our ultimate goal is to put together an open source document outlining our challenges and successes, our recipes, budgets and menus for the year, which we will share as openly and freely as possible with other schools or cooks who want to make good, healthy food the norm in schools in Ireland.
